Day 8: Back on the trail

This morning i woke up and went to Shaws hostel for breakfast.  I am glad to have stayed at Lakeshore instead because the owners have let Shaws turn into a dump.  Its sad because they used to be one of the best hostels on the AT but not now.  They still do breakfast though which was amazing.  I ran into my buddy Auss (the guy i climbed Katahdin with) who had just got in the night before and was zeroing. After that Coffee Break and i got shuttled back to the trail and we are going to hike together for a couple days to caratunk.  He is slower than me which is good because i want to take my time for a couple days but after that i will take off.  We missed a turn off while on the trail and ended up doing an extra half mile each way but thats ok.  The plan was to do 18 to moxie shelter but around 2 we heard thunder so we changed plans.  At 3pm we came to another ford which we knew about and it started raining.  We were hoping there would be some campsites on the other side because there usually are even though the guide book doesn't mention them.  Sure enough there were sites.  We made camp really quick and then the lighting hit.  It was everywhere and horrible.  It basically rained until sunset.  I slept through most of it.  At dark it got really cold but we made dinner and hit the sack again. We only did 12 miles i think so that means tomorrow will be a 19 mile day but whatever. Whats going to stink is with the rain the mud will be bad, everything will be slippery, and the fords will be potentially dangerous.  Oh well... its like they say: no rain, no pain, no Maine.
